AMCRC Nat'l, Sparks, Nevada 1

June 23, 2012

Long Haul AMC trip ! This was the second AMCRC National we have gone to, the first in Sacramento 2010, they had 113 cars there. There were 104 in Spark's....Not to shabby !
Planned this trip since November & already planning on Colorado next Year. We met up in Bishop & had a dozen cars head up from there.

Dale & Carol, John S., and Cindy & I traveled up to Boron to meet up with the rest of our club. Dale was having issues with oil blowing out when he went over 65, so we kept the pace down.

We met up with Mark, Robert, Steve, Andy Ray, and Ron & Wally in a chase vehicle, in Boron.
On the way up to Bishop, Dale was checking to see where he was leaking oil, seemed to be from the intake gasket....had to wait till Reno for that fix.
About 3 miles from Lone Pine, Dale's air shocks blew out, so we hobbled in to town, he was able to buy a kit there & repair them. A few people took their shoes off & stuck their feet in the creek in a park across from the Nappa store.

In Bishop we headed straight to the BBQ, it was already after 6pm. Awesome little park with fresh water streaming through from the Mountains, Great sound ! Locals from a car club had dinner with us and we slowly peeled away to our rooms for some sleep, just down the road.

They had a cake at the park, imagine buying this off the shelf !

we left Bishop with a dozen cars, & a couple chase vehicles. It got prettier as we climbed elevation. Past quite a few lakes & river/streams.

Sue's alternator seized up & we limped into a little town with a Nappa, of course they didn't have one, BUT, Dale did ! In his trunk that he couldn't open....so he took a hammer & screw driver & punched out the lock.
We were on the road again, shortly after.

Finally made it to Reno sometime after 4, maybe 5pm, I wasn't wearing a watch, it's vacation time. Friday was the Museum tour & a show 'n shine later in the day. Dale & John took the time to replace Dale's intake pan. The three of us made it to the Museum about 20 minutes after the group. Dale no longer leaks, we made the show 'n shine later too.

SHOWTIME ! Finally !
Seemed like a long week of driving.
The show field was Awesome, the wide side walks mostly had rolling curbs & it made it easy to park. It was both sides for two blocks, in between the Casino & the theater center. We were broken up into class's, Andy Ray (who cruised with us), Steve, & I were in this group....Steve & I took Trophy's !

AMX class had 15 two seaters & John Siciliano took 2nd place !
What a beautiful group of cars ! Right in front of the Nugget doors ....well....the back doors....

More AMX's ! Including Mark's.

End of the AMX row, with Robert's Blue 70 working as a wind block ! Gusts up to 40 mph ! Very windy day.

Both of these mean sounding 304's trophied. Our buddy from Bakersfield (Donald Moniz) owns the one that looks black (but some grapes must have spilt into the final coat, you'll know what I mean when you see it !). And the blue from C A N A D A , AYE, belongs to Mike, He, Doug, & John came down from B.C. To see what the hell we were doin' ! AYE ! These guys were ALL OVER the place ! Can't wait to see them again, AYE !

The Javelin class had quite a few entries too, you can see Dale's red 70, four cars down, They were on a side street & didn't really get the exposure the rest of us did. Too bad to, they had some SHARP cars here, I think there were over ten.

It was hard to take a shot of these, a Hornet at the corner, built street cars headed up to the Classics & Marlins.

One of these Marlins actually looks pretty new, but it was a barn find that looked like the paint was long gone, amazing pix with this car. I haven't seen this many 327's since I was at an all Chevy show, a few years ago !

Same place, this row faces the Marlins.

The end of this side, just past the Marlins, with a beautiful wagon holding down the wind.

How can you have an AMC show without one of these !
By having TWO ! And one haulin' a HUGE trailer !

Across the road from the info booth, were the Wagons, quite a mixed group, of course my fave was the Reb wagon, not the cleanest car there, but it's family !
