Picnic by the Bay
August 28, 2016
This is "THE PLACE" in San Diego for a car show ! It's Downtown, in the San Diego Bay, on a peninsula/Harbor cove/park, on the grass, water on three sides ! There are shops & eatery's, boats cruisin', and even a little breeze off the water on the hotist days ! To the left of us is the Coronado Bridge, to the right are 3 Aircraft Carriers, with the USS Midway as our Museum, and behind us are the Majestic buildings of Downtown San Diego....not too shabby of a backdrop !
ok, sometimes I talk too much....We had three cars here, Gordon was here first with his 74, I lucked out finding him with room to park close, and before I got parked, Richard got here with his 68. We Really lucked out getting to park close enough to get pix ! And the weather was Awesome ! (it's been too damn hot this year)
Ran across this Beautiful Hudson, and told the owners about our group & the AMC shows, and that they would be welcome with open arms !
This show is put on by "Classic Chevy's" of San Diego, and the proceeds go to the Warrior Foundation Freedom Station. They put on a Great show, and always a great raffle. We have had as many as 8 AMC's here....but it seems our group is dwindling....where have all the AMC's gone....? was that a song?
Being a Classic Chevy show, THEY WERE EVERYWHERE ! I'm partial to the 55. My first car was a 56 coupe, I paid $35 for it, and it only needed a starter solenoid to get her on the road. My second was a 55 2door wagon with a 327....wish I still had it. and I also had a 57 4door wagon for awhile. So I guess I know why they call them Tri-Fives !
Some Very Cool rides here, the Willys "Was" a 4door, the owner welded the rear doors, and you can't tell ! (I have a soft spot for Willys too) oh, who doesn't.
I Love seeing the Flag up, that's why Stan is one of my Hero's. You can see the Carriers across the Bay here.
Talk about nostalgia ! This 47 Ford has been around the track a few times ! And a 3rd place trophy for a 500 lap race in 1953 !
O.K., I think Mustangs are a dime a dozen, but I still like them, and this one is a Beauty ! 600hp 427 ? Tremic 5 spd ? All the body and suspension mods ? What's not to like ! Even some chic named Carroll signed it !
WAX ON WAX OFF, I've heard that before....hmmm....And a little red tow truck, in front of the Harbor, and Downtown, nice.
The only problem with Islands, and the like, are the RATS ! and they are getting pretty big !
OH MY GOD ! 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham ! #151 of only 400 ! cost $13,074 ! I looked it up, a 3bd 2 bath house in San Jose was $14,382 in 1957....so....I guess you would have saved some money buying the car....
Cindy & I went around the Harbor for lunch, lots of boats docked, but I left them out, bottom pix is from where we ate, it shows the point of the park we were in, and you can see my BBG & Richards Blue below the white pop up.
It was a sea of cars, and of course somebody threw a Javelin right in the middle of them.
This is one Beautiful Buick....nuf said....
Just a nice pix of the Harbor, boats, buildings, & cars.
Can you find a 56 ? Just try !
A shot thru the show, park, & Bay. and that 57 is for sale.
Another one, but with the Coronado Bay Bridge in the back. and the 55 is Not for sale.
It was crazy traffic after the show, so we pulled up to the semi grassy knoll to wait, and a Bitchin' old ship was sailing the Bay. Has anyone seen Marco Polo lately ?
