Tahoe Regional AMC Show

June 27, 2015

The High Desert AMC Club put on a Regional at Lake Tahoe on June 27th....it was HOT all the way, and it was HOT in Tahoe ! But it was a Good Show ! I think they had 36 cars, and SoCalAMX had 5 cars here ! John & Shelly, Dale & Denice, and Cindy & I started up on Wednesday, so we could stop in Bishop for the night, 10+ hours in the AMX, in the heat, with no A/C, is too long....and my butt needed the rest...

Mark Melvin brought his new rig, new trailer, and like Brand Spankin' New Playmate AMX up on Thursday, he had to work on Wednesday. He was amazed at his new rig, he said it drove like a dream, and never had any trouble with the wind, and it was windy.

Mark Fletcher, I believe, also towed up on Thursday, he brought his Rouge Convertible, and wouldn't you know, he parked right next to another one at the show ! His Brother from Oregon brought his ! O.K., I have Fletcher as our Club Member, but I still don't know if he's a Cactus Cruiser, SoCalAMX member, or both ! So, we had 5 cars with his.

We only had a few minor problems on the trip, had to adjust the hell out of our carbs when we got into the Mountains in Tahoe, my car died as soon as we got off the one narrow lane dropping into the Lake area, She got me safe before She stalled out....I Love my AMX !

Like I said, it was HOT, Tahoe rarely see's temps in the 90's, but the whole State is hot this year. You can tell by the docks in the lake that the water is down 10 to 15 feet at least. The beach's were a lot bigger the normal, I kept asking my wife when the tide was coming in....Hey, I grew up on the Beach, I KNOW tide flows ! Pix of Emerald Bay p.s. Unless you stay in a casino, the motels in Tahoe do NOT have a/c....

It's Nice to do a Road Trip every year, we only see these people about once a year, at the Vegas Show, so this gives us a chance to connect more then once, and to meet more AMC'ers that we didn't know, AND to see some Beautiful Cars Too !

We're here on the end part of the lot, Mark got here "EARLY" because of the trailer, and he wanted to set it up before anyone got there, so there were 3 cars between us. The Fletchers were on the other side, farther up, so we didn't get a group shot.

Here's our 4 cars, I don't know who the farthest drivers were, but we all had 1000+ round trips ! As a matter of fact, I think Dale got farthest in his Red Donohue ! He lives East of San Diego.

Are you wondering who got People's Choice? Maybe something PINK ? You got it ! The 1968 Playmate of the Year AMX ! Proud Owner : Mark Melvin !

This is Really a Beautiful place to cruise to, maybe even more so if it wasn't so damn HOT !

Now for the cars ! I counted 36 here, I'm sure there would have been more if it had not been in the mid 90's for the last few weeks.

Looks like somebody went fishing.

And Javelin throwing.

CHiPs got three of them.

Looks like the Fletchers have some competition !

Some of our friends from up North.

a few more Javelin throwers.

I guess I have a soft spot for BBG, maybe even more so on a 70 AMX.

Cindy & I went to see the Falls at Emerald Bay, it's a mile hike down to the Lake & the Viking home, and it was worth it ! We even got within a dozen feet of a Bear without knowing it....shook us up a little and my pix came out blurry....
The Falls were less then 25%, but we did see a lot of areas dropping water along the trail "And it was Good"!

Then the hard part, the LONG drive home, why is it always longer going home then it is going somewhere ?
We were along a river, so I pulled over to get a few pix, and to rest my arse ! We stopped Lone Pine for the night on the way home, and It was just about dark when we got home....put over 1100 miles on my car ! and only got one ding !
