Las Vegas “AMC Reunionâ€
November 8, 2014
Actually in Henderson (my wife keeps bringing that up), but we Love this show ! We had 10 cars from our club here this year, that's including Mark Fletcher, who moved into our neck of the woods this year, so we got dibs on him ! Cactus Cruisers will have to wait and see if he ever moves back !
Thursday morning 7 of our cars met up in Victorville for the trip, Allen, Dale, Steve, Mark M, John & Shelly, Mark & Cheryl, and Cindy & Randy. It's a little bit of a trip, and we separated a few times, but we all got there without any problems. Also from the club were Dave & Kati, Robert & Mary, and Jay & Rosemary, all of whom were on their own. Richard also showed up without his AMX.
We got here on Thursday so we could have breakfast at “The Cup†Friday morning in Henderson, then go to the scheduled tour at the Carroll Shelby Heritage Center. This place has some Awesome cars in it, including the very first AC Cobra ! They do mods, resto, & repairs on Cobras & Mustangs....I may put some pix in the pix section of this site, or keep them for myself....I don't know....check back.
After the Shelby tour we took 5 of our cars to the Mine outside of Henderson for some photo ops, also in the pix section. Then Friday evening was the Annual BBQ they put on every year, and the best part....it's FREE ! “HOT DOG†! Pun intended ! Then the Show Early Saturday morning, time to do some cleaning.
They usually have a few vendors and people bringing extra parts to sell off, and they didn't disappoint this year, it was a small swapmeet ! I bought parts, John & Allen bought parts, Mark got more parts for the Playmate car, even Jay, he bought the missing headrests for his 69 BBO !
and the left side, looking from the back. It's hard to get an overall pix of this large group, specially with my little camera, but I got a few good pix anyway. They even had like 5 Jeeps this time ! There were like 5 Pacers too !
O.K., So I snuck in my BBG, with my 2 mechanics, John's Blue Beauty, and Allen's Awesome RW&B, whom, by the way, is the builder of Mark's Playmate AMX, with a lot of help from John. Great Guys ! I also wanted to show them off because they were not around for our Club ramp pix lower down.
Had to add this, “I LOVE†this Car !
The AMX row, there are a few more in the showfield, but this is most of them, with the 4 SC/Ramblers at the end, actually, this shot is from the end, the SC's are at the front of the line by the ramp onto the showfield....no, that's not right....the AMX's should be first ! Well, that's just my unbiased opinion.
I have to say, if I had run across this Javelin (or one like it) when I was looking, I wouldn't have an AMX right now. This thing is Beautiful ! And I'm pretty sure it's truly a Donohue, the owner had an AMX in the same perfect condition last year, so I know it's gotta be real !
These are it for the 68 to 70 Javelin class, one more in the race class, and one more in the Under construction class. So where are all the Javelins ?
I think Mark was lay'n down the law, but as usual, I wasn't listening ! He's talking to our buddy Jeff, who moved to Texas with his 65 Rambler American. His Uncle worked for AMC in Kinosha, so his Dad's side of the family always had Rambler/AMC's. Sorry his job took him from our group, a Great guy. He didn't bring his car, but we were glad he was able to come out and see us, I wasn't sure if he needed a passport to leave Texas.
This cute little couple got Peoples Choice, I think her name is Cindy, I also don't remember if she painted her Metro to match her outfit, or if she dressed to match her car !
There was also a Nash and a Hudson here, nice to see some of the early family here, I see some of these cars around occasionally, and I know they have clubs, but they usually don't come to our shows, they are certainly welcome !
This class sure was sparse this year, 1 Marlin in the Rebel, Marlin, Ambassador, Matador Class....what happened ?
We got 8 of our 11 cars on the ramp for pix, hard to get people together at the end of a show, plus we were loosing our light, but it turned out alright !
This is Rod & Debra and their 69, we met them here, and they just moved to SoCal, so we hope they join us ! We had 10 cars here & hope they make it 11, so we got them in the ramp pix.
Also didn't make the ramp shot, Mark & Cheryl, we stold them from Az when they moved to SoCal this year.
This isn't the whole trophy class, just our group from SoCal, minus Steve, I don't know where he went. Cindy took the pix, but my flash decided not to work, I seem to have dropped this camera a few times, and it seems to not function properly sometimes....go figure....our own Jay got "Best of Show" for his 69 BBO ! I don't know where he's going to put all his trophy's !
We had a normal AMC trip home, Robert had some issues with his new motor, then I had some electrical problems after we got on the freeway, but we were on the road in short order....although Robert had to pull his motor after he got home.
All told, this was a Great Show, Thanks to the Southern Nevada AMC Club !
