Dr. George Car Show
February 8, 2014
I ended up going alone again, but that's o.k., I didn't break down till I got there ! John had planned on coming, but he got a bug and was down all week. Richard was also planing on it, but work....you know how that goes.... I did have a nice drive though, and I took my time, I got there about 10:30.
I wanted to pass out fliers for the Cruisin' Grand fundraiser for the next weekend, it's getting harder for them to find sponsors, so I want to help where I can, I'll be bummed if Cruisin' Grand ends this year, It's free every Friday April through September, but it costs over 2 grand every Friday to run it, so this may be the last year....I'm...I'm gonna cry....
Back to Dr.George, this show donated a check to the Desert Cancer Foundation last year for $50,000 ! Yep, 50 Grand ! This Foundation has funded more than $45.4 Million in cancer related medical costs at a cost of only $6.4 million ! I wish these people could run this country.
O.K. Back to the Show, I missed this show last year, and I don't remember why....but it figures, why ? Because last year an AMX won a trophy here ! And believe it or not, also a 56 Nash ! Owned by Peter & Mary Steinart ! The green 68 AMX owned by Gary Reed. I found out from the booklet that came in the goodie bag.
I did find a Bricklin here, with the AMC 360. Also the little white Rambler that's always at Burger Run (and I finally talked to him, he may come to our show in May ! (you can see it in the pix through the canopy in pix 3 above) I didn't get the pix of the show I wanted to, I spent the first 3 hours dropping fliers off in EVERY car for Cruisin' Grand next week, so I got a few pix later after my hands were empty from the 800+ fliers, People were already leaving by then.
Funny thing happened on the way to the Forum ! Actually, I spotted this thing from 3 rows over, so I ran into John Humphry and his Pacer ! He remembered me from Spark's a few years ago ! He lives in Oregon, he said he was down for about a month and hitting all the shows he could, his group is called Rogue Valley Rumblers and you can add a dot com to that to check them out. Cool !
This is a great show, lots to see, lots to eat, money goes to a great cause....and you get a T-shirt ! It's limited to 1000 cars, but they have not sold out in the last 4 years or more, so I will promote this show every year. So expect an email every year if your on the mailing list.
Back to my broken car, actually it was just a sheared bolt, unfortunately it was the power steering pump adjusting bolt. I tried and tried to get a bolt in it before I figured out it was sheared off, it's not really in a place you can see into, so I jammed a bolt under the unit to get the belt to work and looked for a parts place, which I couldn't find. So I finally remembered I had life saving Zip Ties in my trunk ! I Zipped the neck to the right bracket bolt and got onto the freeway and ended up home, thank you for that gods creation, he/she got something right.
